Cityscapes At Night — Olive & Love

I love the resource blog Deep Space Sparkle. She has some wonderful project ideas for children complete with tutorials. I chose the Cityscape lesson because there was only one color paint, and then it was all cutting and glueing. I'm learning my lessons as I always think a project is simple until I'm faced with 33 kindergarteners with four paint brushes each.... This year Zebra is in first grade and I have to say, they are a whole year older.

After dipping paint brushes in the watered down white paint, the kids made moons and then "tapped" their brush gently to create stars. Paint was provided in cups. MISTAKE... Paint should have been provided on spill proof plates. NOTE TO SELF....

Strips of construction paper were precut in building and window widths. Children were encouraged to give their buildings interesting architecture.

I showed them images of sky scrapers from the internet to inspire their creativity. I also showed them pictures from the Deep Space Sparkle Blog. Before going to the school, I saved the images onto my I-Pad and then used the classroom's crazy projector thingy to display it on the giant piece of technology that I don't know the name of but I'm sure costs a lot of money. Works great.

Plates of glue and scissors were provided. The glue was spread with fingers.
