In all my free time

reiki home

In October of this year, I started classes (at Nurturing Nest) to become a Reiki master.  As defined by Practical Reiki, by Richard Ellis:

Reiki is a system of healing that originated in Japan and dates back to the end of the nineteenth century.  It is practiced by the simple process of laying on of hands to channel healing energy through the practitioner to the recipient.  This healing can take place on many levels.

A reiki practitioner is not healing people, he/she is helping the person to heal themselves.  I find that spending an hour giving reiki to someone, in turn is very much like receiving reiki myself.  If anything, just imagine a scheduled hour of relaxation.

I still need to complete the practice hours from my second series of classes (Reiki 2) to receive my Reiki Practitioners License in addition to the 50 hours I need for Reiki Master.  Because I don't have my massage license, I can not charge for sessions if I plan on laying my hands on my client.  Or I can be arrested for prostitution.  While I am a bit excited that I am so dangerously close to breaking the law, I've seen Orange Is The New Black and I don't think I'm ready for that.

Thank you to my friend Clara (The Parent Company) for loaning me her massage table.  I've set it up in the little bump out of my master bedroom that previously stored a treadmill was my work-out room.  I have a essential oil diffuser, candles set on timers and a little speaker for my Liquid Mind Pandora.

reiki books, encaustic painting

I totally admit I have more free time this year then last year.  Three kids with three different school schedules was uber challenging last year and I spent much of my life in my car.  This year my littlest has started half day kindergarten which has given me a couple more hours to myself.  Balance this with volunteering to teach art for my 7 year old and 10 year old in addition to being kiln master at their elementary school and I have about 137 minutes of free time a week (way more then the 63 minutes I had last year).  In addition to learning Reiki, I am also researching the art of encaustic painting.  This is basically painting with layers of wax.  I've been rearranging my art studio to make room for a large work table and I'm really excited.   I've also scheduled two print making classes at our local art museum just to get me in the groove.  If I don't schedule it in, something else always comes up right?  So here's to finding time to focus on something for me.

That is, until the Holidays take over…dun dun DUN.
